Birthing at home or hospital
Wherever you decided to give birth, you deserve choice and autonomy.
Most women seeking my care are planning to give birth at home, however some women are seeking the care of a private midwife and wanting to birth in the hospital.
Planning a home birth is safe and associated with positive experiences and outcomes for women and babies. The first Australia-wide study to examine outcomes by planned place of birth found significant positive outcomes for planned home birth. For healthy women in Australia having an uncomplicated pregnancy, there was nearly a six fold increase in women experiencing a normal labour and birth. BMJ 2019
Wherever you plan to give birth, I will support and care for you through pregnancy and birth, up until your baby is around 6 weeks old.
-
Every pregnancy is different and you are seen according to your own needs. If there is a “typical” plan it’s probably - seeing each other every month or so in the beginning of pregnancy and more frequently as you get closer to giving birth. I attend you when you need me in labour until you are settled post birth. You are seen at home often in the early days following birth, then less frequently as you and your baby grow in strength and confidence.

I service the Eastern and Inner Suburbs of Sydney and close surrounds. I welcome you to get in touch once you are aware of your pregnancy so I can make space for you in my caseload. I typically care for 2-4 women per month. Email is the ideal way to get in touch as I work a range of weird and wild hours. When emailing it helps to know what suburb you live, approximately when you are due and if this is your first baby.
